Kit Car and Custom Build Titling: VIN to Street Legal
We title kit cars, replicas, and scratch builds for a flat $849 service fee: the state VIN assignment, the build documentation package (receipts for chassis, engine, and major components), the specially-constructed-vehicle application, and first registration.
A car you built has no title until a state creates one, and each state has its own specially constructed vehicle process with its own inspection. The work is proving what the car is made of, and that is a documentation problem we solve every week.

Get my exact quoteWhat your build file needs to contain
The MSO or bill of sale for the kit or chassis, receipts for the engine and transmission (with serial numbers), receipts or donor-vehicle paperwork for major assemblies, and photos of the build. States assign a new VIN at inspection and title the car as specially constructed with the model year of completion in most cases. Emissions treatment varies: some states test to the engine's year, some to the completion year, and a few have SB100-style exemption lotteries worth planning around.
Replicas, resto-mods, and gray areas
A replica on a new chassis is a specially constructed vehicle. A resto-mod keeping its original frame usually keeps its original VIN and title, even with a new drivetrain. The line matters for emissions and inspection, and calling it wrong at the DMV costs months. Tell the quiz what the car is and we will call it right the first time.
Questions people ask us
How do I get a VIN for a car I built?
The state assigns one through its specially constructed vehicle process, physically affixed at inspection. We prepare the application and the build file, and schedule the inspection where the state allows.
What will emissions look like for my kit car?
State-dependent. Some test to the engine year, some to completion year, California runs the SB100 exemption list with limited annual slots. We map your state's treatment on the quote before you commit.
Can you title a car assembled from two vehicles?
Yes, but the donor paperwork on both halves matters, and some states treat it as rebuilt rather than specially constructed. Send the details through the quiz and we will map which process applies.
